Milk Dairy Visit
Shree Gavisiddheshwara college of Nursing, Koppal Organised Milk Dairy Visit on 8th and 14th December 2022 for 40 students in each batch of II Year & I Year B.Sc. Nursing at Karnataka Co-operative Milk Producer’s Federation Ltd (KMF) Boodagumpa, to understand about the pasteurization, Sterilization, Flexi packing, Poly packing, boiling tank, Settling tank, and Ghee Clarifier.
History
The Union was established in the year 1989 under the Operation Flood II covering three districts viz. Raichur, Bellary & Koppal with more than 727 DCSs. It has a dairy plant at Bellary with a capacity of 1 LAKH litres per day and a 40,000 litres per day plant at Raichur. It has Chilling Centres at Dadesagur-30 TLPD, Ittigi-10 TLPD, Kudligi-50 TLPD with total chilling capacity of 90 TLPD. There are 37 Bulk Milk Coolers and 334 Automatic Milk Collection Units in the Union. The Union procures on an average of 1.85 Lakh Kgs per day of milk and sells 1.32 lakh litres milk and 0.06 litres/day of curd per day. Apart from selling Toned milk, the Union is also procuring Buffaloes milk separately and marketing standardized milk under the brand name “SHUBHAM”. The Union also produces Curds, Ghee, Mysore Pak and Peda.
Details of Visit
Students were reached KMF milk dairy at 12 noon and welcome the students by senior staff, took them to the conference room at first hour. Divided the students into two batch with separate guide to the team. They gave introduction of company profile and its present functioning in dairy industry for different milk products. The technical team has explained automation of dairy through presentation containing many functional block diagrams and existing computerized controlled machineries.
Students witnessed the process of Pasteurization of milk which the milk is heated at temperature of 72 degrees Celsius for 15 seconds. Storage of milk in a tank capacity to hold the milk is 30,000 litres. Standardization of milk process involves in separation of milk fat and solid fat to prepare different varieties of milk. Homogenization of milk in this the machine breaks and mixes the fat globule balls. Freezing, cooling and packing are the final steps.
The company sales daily 25,000 lit flexi pack & 60,000 lit poly packs of milk. There are more than 160 products sales in the Karnataka.
Students were benefited and gained the knowledge of complete process of production of milk and milk products.
